BELONG: Fostering Inclusion and Wellbeing for International Employees

Jan 24, 2025 The BELONG project, supported by Velliv Foreningen, addresses the psychological barriers, isolation, and cultural differences that impact the wellbeing and retention of international employees in Danish small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). By equipping companies with actionable tools and strategies, the project is setting a new standard for creating inclusive and supportive workplaces in Denmark.

Project name: BELONG – Inclusion and Wellbeing in Danish SMEs

Purpose: To enhance the inclusion and mental wellbeing of international employees in Danish SMEs by tackling cultural and psychological barriers, fostering psychological safety, and supporting sustainable talent retention.

Project Description:

The BELONG project responds to an urgent demand from Danish companies for solutions to improve the integration and wellbeing of international employees. By leveraging expertise from Copenhagen Capacity, Dansk Industri, Erhverv Aarhus, and Human House, the project combines research with practical interventions. Core elements include the development of an Inclusion Barometer, a user-friendly tool that helps companies assess their ability to integrate international talent and identify areas for improvement. Alongside this, the BELONG Guide offers tailored recommendations for fostering inclusive workplace cultures. Through workshops, onboarding programs, and leadership training, participating SMEs will gain the skills and insights needed to address challenges like psychological safety and cultural misunderstandings.

Results:

  • Development of the Inclusion Barometer, offering measurable insights into workplace inclusion.
  • Scalable tools and resources for SMEs across Denmark, fostering long-term cultural and organizational transformation.
