Denmark is 4th best in the Energy Architecture Performance Index 2017 by World Economic Forum, ranking 127 countries based on their ability to provide affordable, environmentally sustainable and secure energy.
Denmark is the 4th best country in the world when it comes to achieving affordable, environmentally sustainable and secure energy systems.
The country achieves the 2nd highest score for energy security and the 8th place for economic growth and development.
Denmark will be free of fossil fuels by 2050
By 2050, Denmark will have reached the goal of 100% renewable energy in the energy and transport sectors, by committing to large investments up to 2020 in renewable energy, energy efficiency and the overall energy system
Denmark’s climate targets include:
- By 2020, approx. 50% of electricity consumption supplied by wind power.
- By 2020, more than 35% of final energy consumption supplied from renewable energy sources.
- By 2025, Copenhagen will be carbon-neutral.
Building the energy grid of tomorrow
Danish policymakers are focusing on the implications of:
- Being fossil free for the transport sector.
- The future role of the Danish natural grid.
- The introduction of large amounts of fluctuating renewable energy in the electricity grid.
