Denmark is the second-best performing country in the EF English Proficiency Index, ranking English skills in 72 countries worldwide.

In the 2016 EF English Proficiency Index, Denmark takes the second position, surpassed only by the Netherlands.

High-technology exports
Countries with better English skills tend to produce more high-technology exports and invest more in research and development in fields such as pharmaceuticals, scientific instruments, computers, and electrical machinery. English is also critical to science and engineering. Countries with higher English proficiency have more researchers and technicians per capita, as well as larger expenditures for research and development.
